A quaint English cottage in a serene part of Shimla, Northwood is the idyllic retreat for a family vacation in the hills....
History
Northwood was built in 1916, by the celebrated English architect Roland Hotz, who designed other eminent buildings in Shimla such as the original Wildflower hall, the old Cecil hotel and the Parish hall. Roland Hotz built Northwood as his personal residence which is borne out by its idyllic setting, sturdy stone masonry, and ingenious architectural design.
In 1920 northwood came into the possession of Mrs Hermione Montagu, the niece of Lady Constance Ker..
Accommodation
Northwood stands on its own, surrounded by trees and shrubbery like an enchanted cottage in a fairy tale. The stone exteriors and lattice windows, coupled with the homely inside and a cosy attic, make Northwood the ideal setting for an Enid Blyton adventure.
The neat facade of the house belies the spacious interiors that lie within. A hall with a wooden staircase, a bedroom and bathroom, drawing room and glazed verandah, a dining room with pantry and kitchen make up the downstairs.
Amenities
The pantry and kitchen area is fully equipped with cooking range and utensils, crockery, glass, cutlery and all modern amenities such as a refrigerator, microwave, washing machine and drier. Hired services for washing utensils can be arranged on request. Cable television in each suite, linen and running hot & cold water in the bathrooms completes the picture.
